OKX Australia Review: Is the Up-to-A$150 BTC Welcome Reward Worth the Fees and Lock-In?
OKX Australia reviewed for Australian residents: who runs it and how it is regulated, the 0.70% retail spot fee, free PayID deposits, how the BTC welcome tasks, net deposits, lock-in and hold amount work, what users complain about and who should skip it.

Best for
Australian residents aged 18 or over who want a large international exchange with free AUD deposits by PayID, will pass identity checks, and would make the deposit or trade that the Welcome Rewards tasks ask for anyway.
OKX's invite message for code 2BZJZGO2 promises up to A$150 in BTC, paid for deposit and trade tasks whose exact amounts you only see in Rewards > Welcome Rewards after sign-up. The reward is real once it unlocks, but three things shrink it. Retail spot trades cost 0.70% each way, so every A$1,000 traded costs A$7. The BTC is locked for a period, and OKX holds an equal, price-tracking slice of your balance until it unlocks. And every withdrawal cuts your net deposit, which can undo a deposit task. Join through our link if you want an AUSTRAC-registered exchange with free PayID deposits, read your tasks before you put money in, and only do the ones that match a purchase you'd make anyway.

Watch-outs
- Retail spot fees of 0.70% maker and taker on the Regular tier, far above OKX's global rates
- Task amounts, thresholds, lock-in length and unlock conditions only appear in the app after sign-up
- OKX holds part of your balance equal to the reward's live value until the lock-in ends, even after you sell the BTC
- Withdrawals and transfers out reduce your net deposit and can undo a completed deposit task
- Spot trading sits outside the AFSL regime and deposit protection, and spot disputes go to arbitration in Hong Kong
- Australian residents only, and an account opened without the code can't have the bonus added later

You must be a new OKX Australia customer, an Australian resident aged 18+, and pass identity verification. BTC rewards are locked for a period before you can withdraw them. Crypto is volatile and you can lose some or all of your money; this is not financial advice.

What OKX Australia is, and who regulates it
OKX Australia is the local arm of the OKX exchange. Spot and Convert trades are with OKX Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 22 636 269 040), which acts as principal and counterparty on every trade and is registered with AUSTRAC as a digital currency exchange provider. Derivatives sit with OKX Australia Financial Pty Ltd, which holds AFSL 379035; under the terms in force from 6 October 2026 it offers retail derivatives as well as wholesale products. AUD payments run through Bano Pty Ltd (AFSL 536984).
The spot service itself is not regulated under Australia's financial services licensing regime: OKX's terms say so, and say OKX Australia Financial has applied to ASIC to extend its licence to cover it. Your assets aren't protected by deposit protection or a deposit insurance scheme, OKX may pool them and hold them with other OKX group companies, and in a shortfall you may not get all of them back.
Fees: what trading actually costs
Retail spot fees on the Regular tier, which covers anyone under A$150,000 in assets and A$200,000 of 30-day trading volume, are 0.70% for both makers and takers, per OKX Australia's fee table updated on 19 October 2026. VIP 1 drops to 0.45% maker and 0.50% taker from A$150,001 in assets or A$200,001 of monthly volume, and the cheapest retail tier, VIP 9, is 0% maker and 0.05% taker. The 0.08% and 0.10% rates quoted in OKX's global guides apply to wholesale clients here, not to a retail account.
Moving money costs less. OKX doesn't charge for AUD deposits by bank transfer or PayID, or for AUD withdrawals to your bank, although your bank may. Crypto deposits are free, and crypto withdrawals pay one network fee per transaction, shown before you confirm.
AUD deposits and withdrawals
OKX creates a PayID for you the first time you open the AUD deposit page, or you can pay by BSB transfer to your own account details. Most deposits arrive instantly, although some banks hold first-time or large payments. The sending account must be in your name, third-party deposits are rejected, and only local Australian banks are supported, so Wise and other exchanges won't work.
PayID only works for deposits. Withdrawals go to a saved BSB and account number and usually arrive almost instantly; a first withdrawal can take up to one business day. OKX can delay crypto withdrawals to an outside wallet for compliance, fraud or scam checks while fiat withdrawals carry on.
The welcome reward: up to A$150 in BTC
OKX's invite message for code 2BZJZGO2 says new users can get up to A$150 when they start trading. The rewards come from OKX Australia's New User Bonus Program: deposit and trade tasks, each with its own BTC reward, threshold and deadline, counted from the day your account opens. OKX doesn't publish the tiers on its terms page; they appear in Rewards > Welcome Rewards after sign-up, and OKX can change them.
You qualify if you're new to OKX Australia, live in Australia, are 18 or over, pass identity verification and register through a designated channel such as a referral link or code. Existing or former OKX Australia users, users of other OKX entities, sub-accounts and OKX staff are excluded, and OKX can treat accounts linked by device, IP address or identity data as one person. An account opened any other way can't have the bonus added by hand; you have 30 days to appeal through the Rewards Centre.
Disclosure: 2BZJZGO2 is BonusRoam's own OKX Australia referral code, so OKX pays us a referral reward when you sign up and trade through it.
Which deposits and trades count
Deposit tasks use net deposits: qualifying deposits minus qualifying withdrawals. AUD by PayID or bank transfer and on-chain crypto from an outside wallet count, with crypto valued in AUD when it arrives. Internal and sub-account transfers, promotional funds and P2P shared orders don't count, and reversed or charged-back deposits are taken off. AUD and on-chain withdrawals, transfers to OKX Pay or the Web3 Wallet and internal transfers to another OKX user all reduce the total.
Trade tasks count buys, sells, converts and spot order-book trades that pay a positive fee. Zero-fee pairs, zero-fee converts, trades with maker rebates or fee waivers, OTC trades and wash or circular trades don't count, and nor do futures. A cumulative task adds up the AUD value of every eligible trade in the task period; a single-trade task needs one trade of the full amount.
The lock-in and the hold amount
Each reward arrives in BTC within 48 hours of the task, priced at the BTC/AUD rate on the day it's paid rather than the day you finished. It is then locked for the period shown in the app, counted from the day it was issued: you can trade it on OKX but not withdraw it. OKX won't swap rewards for cash directly, and any tax is yours.
While a reward is locked, OKX holds an amount of your balance equal to the reward's current AUD value, and that hold follows the BTC price on the original quantity even after you sell. If you miss the unlock conditions, OKX may forfeit or reclaim the reward, and it can claw rewards back after the lock-in for fraud, misrepresentation or a breach of the terms.
A worked example
OKX's own terms give the numbers. Deposit A$1,000 by PayID and withdraw A$200, and your net deposit is A$800, enough for an A$500 deposit task; withdraw another A$400 and it drops to A$400, and the task is no longer met. Receive 0.001 BTC at A$150,000, worth A$150, and sell it for A$150; if BTC then rises to A$180,000, the hold on your balance becomes A$180 until the lock-in ends. Trading costs come on top: every A$1,000 of eligible spot trades costs A$7 on the Regular tier, so buying A$1,000 of BTC and selling it later costs A$14 before any price move.
So the full A$150, if your tasks add up to it, is worth A$150 minus your trading fees and minus any fall in BTC during the lock-in, paid as BTC you can't withdraw until the lock ends. It pays when the deposit and trades are ones you planned anyway. It doesn't justify borrowing, churning trades or parking money on an exchange you don't want.
What users complain about
On 24 October 2026 the OKX app was rated 4.6 from 2,100 ratings on the Australian App Store and 4.0 from about 929,000 ratings on Google Play, a global listing that covers every OKX market.
The recurring complaints in Australian reviews are deposits and crypto held for review before they can be withdrawn, accounts frozen while support asks the same questions again, identity checks that keep failing, slow support loops, and rewards or referral bonuses that never arrived. Several match the terms: OKX can delay withdrawals for compliance checks and only pays tasks that meet every rule.
Opening, verifying and closing an account
Open our invite link, or enter 2BZJZGO2 when you sign up; on a phone, the link hands you to the OKX app. Register with the Australian entity and complete identity verification. OKX's Australian services are for Australian users only, you must be 18 or over, you may hold only one OKX profile and you mustn't hide your IP address. Then open Rewards > Welcome Rewards and read your tasks before you deposit.
You can ask to close the account at any time. OKX may first need open orders cancelled, returns AUD to your linked bank account and crypto to an address you give, and deducts anything you owe. Spot and Convert disputes go to mediation and then arbitration seated in Hong Kong, while retail derivatives complaints go to AFCA. Bonus disputes go through the Help Centre within 30 days, and you can still complain to ASIC.
Who should join, and who should skip it
Join through our link if you live in Australia, want an exchange with free PayID deposits and a long coin list, and the tasks in Welcome Rewards match a deposit or purchase you'd make anyway. Check the lock-in length before your first deposit and keep enough spare balance to cover the hold.
Skip it if you mostly buy small amounts, because 0.70% is a steep spot fee; if you'll need the money back in your bank soon; if you've had an OKX Australia account before; or if you'd have to buy crypto you don't want to reach a task. Crypto prices can fall sharply, and you can lose everything you put in.
