ether.fi Cash Review: Is the 3% Crypto Card Worth It?

ether.fi Cash reviewed: how the Visa credit card spends or borrows against your crypto, the 3%, 1% and 0.5% cashback bands paid in ETHFI, FX fees, membership levels, where it's available, the catches and who should skip it.

Best for

Crypto holders in a supported country who spend up to about $2,000 a month in US dollars or a local currency, are happy to be paid in ETHFI, and want to spend without moving money back to a bank.

On the free Core level, ether.fi Cash pays 3% cashback on the first $2,000 you spend each month, 1% up to $3,000 and 0.5% after that, which is generous for a card with no annual fee. The catch is what you're paid in. Cashback arrives as ETHFI, priced when your purchase clears and locked for seven days, so the $65 earned on $2,500 of spending was about 106 ETHFI on 24 October 2026 and is worth whatever ETHFI fetches when you sell. Spending in a currency other than US dollars or euros adds a 0.5% FX fee on Core, and euro purchases skip the fee but earn on a smaller ladder. If you already keep stablecoins or ETH with ether.fi and spend moderate amounts, it is a strong everyday card. If you want cashback in cash, or would borrow against volatile crypto to fund spending, look elsewhere.

Pros

  • 3% cashback on the first $2,000 of spending each month on the free Core level
  • No annual fee on Core, and the first virtual card is free in most countries
  • Spend stablecoins directly, or borrow against ETH, BTC and other assets without selling them
  • No FX markup on euro purchases at any membership level
  • A Visa credit card that works wherever Visa does, including Apple Pay and Google Pay
  • The physical card ships to more than 80 countries and territories, including Hong Kong, Singapore and Japan

Watch-outs

  • Cashback is paid in ETHFI, a volatile token, not in cash
  • The rate falls to 1% after $2,000 and 0.5% after $3,000 a month on Core
  • 0.5% FX fee on Core for currencies other than US dollars and euros
  • Euro spending earns on a smaller ladder: 3% only on the first $800
  • Borrow mode charges interest and can liquidate your collateral if prices fall
  • Recent App Store complaints centre on slow support and trouble moving funds out

What ether.fi Cash is

ether.fi started as an Ethereum staking protocol and now offers one non-custodial account for spending, trading, borrowing, earning and staking. Cash is its Visa credit card: a third-party issuer issues it under licence from Visa, Ether.Fi Cash services it, and it works anywhere Visa is accepted, including car hire and flight bookings that some debit cards can't handle, and through Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Your money sits in an on-chain smart-contract account (a Safe) that you control, not in a bank. Since the April 2026 upgrade, that account and all card settlement run on the Optimism network. Nothing in it is covered by deposit insurance, and ether.fi's Cash Protection Program, which would reimburse Core members up to $10,000 for unauthorised losses through its smart contracts, hasn't launched yet.

Direct Pay or Borrow: how purchases are paid

In Direct Pay mode, each purchase comes straight out of your USDC balance, then LiquidUSD if the USDC runs out. Nothing is borrowed and no interest is charged, so this is the mode for everyday spending.

Borrow mode lets you spend against everything in your vault without selling it: purchases become a loan backed by your crypto. You can borrow up to 81% of the value of USDC, 55% of ETH or weETH, 52% of eBTC and only 20% of ETHFI. Interest accrues, and if prices fall far enough that your health factor drops below 1.00, some or all of your collateral can be liquidated. Treat it as a credit line secured on volatile assets.

Cashback by monthly spend

Cashback is tiered by your total spending each calendar month, and the rate steps down as you spend more. On the free Core level you get 3% on the first $2,000, 1% from $2,001 to $3,000 and 0.5% above that. Luxe stretches the 3% band to $10,000 and Pinnacle to $50,000, and VIP pays 4% on the first $50,000.

Euro purchases have their own, smaller ladder to offset the 0% FX rate: on Core, 3% on the first $800 (measured in dollars), 1% to $1,500 and then 0.1%. Both currencies share one monthly counter. ATM withdrawals, cash advances, peer-to-peer payments, currency exchange, tax payments, gift cards, money orders and investment platforms earn nothing, and refunds are deducted.

ether.fi Cash cashback by monthly spend, in US dollars: Core (free) pays 3% up to $2,000, 1% to $3,000 and 0.5% above; Luxe ($199 a year) 3% up to $10,000, 1% to $20,000 and 0.5% above; Pinnacle ($999 a year) 3% up to $50,000, 1% to $80,000 and 0.5% above. EUR purchases skip the FX fee but use a lower ladder: on Core, 3% to $800, 1% to $1,500, then 0.1%. Cashback is paid in ETHFI and can be claimed after a 7-day lock.

Paid in ETHFI, after a seven-day lock

Cashback is worked out in dollars while a purchase is pending, then converted to ETHFI at the market price once it clears and locked for seven days. After that it becomes claimable on the Cashback page, and only when you claim does the ETHFI land in your account, where you can hold it, stake it or sell it.

Three rules matter. You can only claim once the balance passes a minimum dollar value that ether.fi sets, so a small balance can slip back under it if ETHFI falls. Unclaimed cashback can expire after six months of account inactivity and is forfeited if you close the account. And ether.fi can cap monthly cashback or change the rates, with 30 days' notice for changes against you.

What a month of spending earns

Take $2,500 of spending on Core in one month. In US dollars that earns 3% on $2,000 plus 1% on $500: $65, or about 106 ETHFI at the $0.613 price on 24 October 2026. Spent in another currency, such as Hong Kong dollars or yen, the cashback is the same but the 0.5% FX fee costs $12.50, leaving $52.50.

Spent in euros there's no FX fee, but the euro ladder pays $24 on the first $800, $7 on the next $700 and $1 on the last $1,000: $32. Up to about $1,070 a month, euro spending comes out ahead because it skips the fee; above that, the bigger dollar ladder wins even after the 0.5% FX fee.

What $2,500 of Core spending earns in a month: spent in US dollars, $65 (3% on $2,000 plus 1% on $500); spent in another currency, $52.50 ($65 cashback minus a $12.50 FX fee); spent in euros, $32 ($24 + $7 + $1 on the euro ladder, no FX fee). $65 is about 106 ETHFI at $0.613 on 24 October 2026. Luxe at $199 a year covers its fee on cashback alone from about $2,830 a month of US dollar spending.

Membership levels: is Luxe worth $199?

Everyone starts on Core. Luxe costs $199 a year or 5,000 Membership points a month, Pinnacle $999 a year or 25,000 points, and VIP comes from holding $500,000 in Liquid vaults or staking 500,000 ETHFI. Card spending earns 1,000 points per $1,000, so spending $5,000 a month keeps you on Luxe without paying.

Buying Luxe only pays in a narrow range. Its 3% band beats Core's from $2,000 a month, and on cashback alone it covers $199 from about $2,830 a month of dollar spending; at $5,000 or more, your spending earns Luxe through points anyway. Luxe also halves the FX fee to 0.25% and adds 10% category cashback on things like AI tools, streaming and food, up to $10 a month.

FX, card and ATM costs

Core has no annual fee. The first virtual card is free except in Argentina, Angola, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, the Philippines, South Africa and Thailand, where it costs $10. The app shows the physical card's price before you order, and the shipping address can't be changed once the order is placed.

Foreign currency spending is converted at the rate when the payment settles, usually one to two days after purchase, plus a margin of 0.5% on Core, 0.25% on Luxe and nothing on Pinnacle or VIP; euros are always at 0%. If a terminal offers to charge you in dollars, choose the local currency. ATM withdrawals are capped at $5,000 each and at five withdrawals or $25,000 in a rolling 24 hours, they're free (up to 10 a month) only from Pinnacle up, and they never earn cashback.

The referral: what @gquids gets you

Sign up through our link, or enter the handle @gquids when you register. There's no fixed sign-up bonus for you: what you get is the card and its cashback. ether.fi also runs time-limited referral campaigns tied to specific codes, such as extra cashback on food or rides; if one applies to the code you joined with, it shows in the Promotions section of the app.

Disclosure: @gquids is our own affiliate handle. Once you activate the card and spend $100, ether.fi pays us a $10 USDC bonus (more if you become a high spender), then 0.1% of your eligible spending and a share of any card fees you pay. Your own cashback follows the same bands as everyone else on your level.

Where it's available and how to sign up

The physical card ships to verified members in more than 80 countries and territories, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia, Canada, the UAE, Brazil, Mexico and most of the EU. Belgium and Ireland get the virtual card only, and in the US the physical card ships to 30 states plus Washington, DC. Everyone has to pass identity verification (KYC).

Open our link, create your account, complete KYC and add a card: the virtual card works straight away and can go into Apple Pay or Google Pay. Fund the account with USDC or other supported assets, choose Direct Pay or Borrow mode, and set daily and monthly limits in the card settings. To leave, freeze or delete the card and withdraw your assets, but claim your cashback first, because unclaimed cashback is lost when an account closes.

Risks and what users complain about

On 24 October 2026 the ether.fi app was rated 4.9 from 414 ratings on the US App Store. The low ratings that do appear centre on support: slow or missing replies, a chat system that goes in circles, trouble moving funds out, and no obvious way to delete an account.

The structural risks matter more than the app: smart-contract bugs, liquidation in Borrow mode, ETHFI's price between earning and selling, and card terms set by the issuer that can change. ether.fi's own risk page notes that the card is governed by the issuer's terms and isn't affiliated with the ether.fi protocol, and a 4.9 rating from a few hundred people is a thin base next to mainstream banking apps.

Who should get it, and who should skip it

Get it if you already hold stablecoins or ETH, live where the card is offered, spend around $2,000 a month or less in dollars or a currency other than euros, and are happy to take rewards in ETHFI. Claim and sell or stake the ETHFI regularly if you don't want to carry token risk.

Skip it if you want cash rewards you can count on, spend mostly in euros above about $1,000 a month, would need Borrow mode to afford purchases, or want a card backed by a bank's deposit protection.
